After masses of hype across the UK, Doller and Y-Beezy have honoured their loyal fans with the release of “Trap Season”, their first collaborative project.
It’s been a long time in the making, but the London pair – who’s friendship spans from before they were both musicians – are proud to present their all-guns-blazing mixtape, which has taken a lot of hard graft to put together.
“Trap Season”, in Doller’s words, is an opportunity to “showcase my skills [and] my rap flows”after years of slugging it out in the highly-competitive Grime scene.Although he’s yet to depart from Grime, the new CD allows him to explore Rap – a genre which he’s long admired and is pleased to find a comfortable position within.
As he still dabbles with a range of styles- including the Bashment heard on a bonus track – his musical know-how allows him to exemplify his ease on any instrumental.
The street-oriented direction of Y-Beezy spills all the pain of an out-and-out hustler. His influence of the BayArea Rap – from the likes of The Jacka and other Northern California legends – means that his swaggered expression is all-too natural.
The results? Banger after banger, in this packed-out release. Waking up with Beezy’s only focus being to “Do what [he’s] got to do” ominously hints on the life he leads. This same all-or-nothing mentality rings true in his contributions to the release.
The triumphant production from capable beatmakers like ZDot and Rhymez gives this mixtape life. Whether it’s to get Doller into flow chameleon mode or to optimise Y-Beezy’s ability to lay down raucous rhymes, it inevitably results in endless hits.
Each song reads like a single, as the two perform awe-inspiring
tag team rhymes. Within them, extensive storytelling and metaphoric
adventures sit perfectly-tight with the instrumentals they work from.
Over the course of the release, fans will recognise the joyous way the pair attack each track. While continually referencing the dingy traps which moulded their lives, the notion that their talent will lift them out of this lifestyle keeps them motivated.
Together, Doller and Y-Beezy are a force to be reckoned with and spell a potential threat to others in the industry. When they share verses out between themselves, the music is as hard-hitting and infringes on the same territory other Road Rap acts have been exploring as of late. Appearances from the likes of Fem Fel, DB1 and Mercston and affirm the pair’s credibility in the streets and the level of support they’re gaining from their work.
Amongst the singles taken from the mixtape are “Cab Back”, “No Stopping Us” and “Super Shotter”.
From the diversity of these three alone, the duo convey the various
angles which have to be addressed in their wondrous release. They
haven’t kept to the conventional few directions which most Trap Rap
acts focus on; they’ve got the aspirational, hustle-minded and
contemplative aspects included too, for the authentic “Trap Season” experience.
