Villain – Recommend Me [Free Exclusive Download]

Title: Recommend Me

Release Date: 29th January 2012

Available from:

Label: M.O.G. Recordings

No matter how exciting it may be for new cities – or even countries – to pick up on the sound, it’s nothing like hearing Grime being performed by a promising up-and-comer from the same area as Dizzee, Wiley and Tinchy Stryder.

Here to take on that legacy is Villain, an MC from the So Bow collective who earned a name as a young lyrical wonder within Mucky Wolfpack. Over the past year, he’s impressed industry heads at a number of reputable open mic events in his area, but he’s now ready to unveil a mixtape’s worth of material with M.O.G. Recordings; presentinghis capabilities in the booth. Entitled “Recommend Me”, Villain makes his solo debut with 12 tracks of relentless music.

Making it clear that he’s been brought up to appreciate the skippy end of the rhyming spectrum, the majority of the mixtape features Villain riled up into a lyrical frenzy. To those who’ve witnessed the damage he inflicts on Deja Vu FM sets, the sprawl of track selected for “Recommend Me” reflect his destructive presence behind the microphone. As he does so, Grime smashes like “Let Me Go”, “Big Mikee” and “Don’t Export That” as produced as  demonstrations of his writing ability.

Joined by the likes of Realz, Jay Willz and Jammin on the mixtape, Villain makes it a mission to present what makes him stand out as an MC, using both a combination of beats which Grime and Hip Hop fans will be very familiar with and refreshing new instrumentals. He might have some of his tracks complimented by the guests who join him, but the primary mission is to allow him to break out amongst a whole new generation of spitters. “Recommend Me” does so with ease, so it’s about time people did as is instructed in the title.

Grime will recognise the unmissable talent of Villain when “Recommend Me” drops on 29th January 2012.

Macca – Change [Free Download]

MindOfGrime is a grime blog, we eat, sleep and drink grime but every so often we get linked to a ‘hip hop’ tune that we really feel and today is one of those days

After seeing Stayfresh’ Macca post the link to his new track ‘Change’ we decided to give it a listen and are we glad we did, this track is something else, it is deep and meaningful with Macca talking about situations that have happened to him over the years over a very sombre production.

This track seems to be one that is personal to Macca, as he recites his lyrics you can almost hear the emotions in him, it’s a quality track and you can grab it today for free download (follow the soundcloud for download)

Bashy – The Crunchie Mixtape *Hosted By Slim* [Free Download]

Ashley Thomas more commonly known to us grime fans as ‘Bashy’ is a multi talented mc/recording artist/actor who has been doing his thing on the grime circuit for many years and boasts an acting appearance in lead uk movie ‘Shank’ to critical acclaim, many of us remember Bashy for his often harsh lyrics (take the track f**k wiley for example) and quirky bars and delivery but his latest offering ‘The Crunchie Mixtape’ is anything but.

Yes, the unmistakable Bashy delivery is there and yes Bashy can still drop clever lyrics, the only problem for us grime fans is the fact the Crunchie Mixtape is predominently filled with freestyles over bait hip hop beats and pop tracks.

John, Hustle Hard, Til Im Gone are all there plus freestyles to tracks by The Wanted and Dappy are thrown in for not so good measure, ok not every track is poor with ‘Angels Cant Fly’ alongside man of the moment Ed Sheeran being a particular stand-out but this just isnt the Bashy we know and love.

Doller & Y Beezy – Trap Season OUT NOW!!

After masses of hype across the UK, Doller and Y-Beezy have honoured their loyal fans with the release of “Trap Season”, their first collaborative project.

It’s been a long time in the making, but the London pair – who’s friendship spans from before they were both musicians – are proud to present their all-guns-blazing mixtape, which has taken a lot of hard graft to put together.

“Trap Season”, in Doller’s words, is an opportunity to “showcase my skills [and] my rap flows”after years of slugging it out in the highly-competitive Grime scene.Although he’s yet to depart from Grime, the new CD allows him to explore Rap – a genre which he’s long admired and is pleased to find a comfortable position within.

As he still dabbles with a range of styles- including the Bashment heard on a bonus track – his musical know-how allows him to exemplify his ease on any instrumental.

The street-oriented direction of Y-Beezy spills all the pain of an out-and-out hustler. His influence of the BayArea Rap – from the likes of The Jacka and other Northern California legends – means that his swaggered expression is all-too natural.

The results? Banger after banger, in this packed-out release. Waking up with Beezy’s only focus being to “Do what [he’s] got to do” ominously hints on the life he leads. This same all-or-nothing mentality rings true in his contributions to the release.

The triumphant production from capable beatmakers like ZDot and Rhymez gives this mixtape life. Whether it’s to get Doller into flow chameleon mode or to optimise Y-Beezy’s ability to lay down raucous rhymes, it inevitably results in endless hits.

Each song reads like a single, as the two perform awe-inspiring
tag team rhymes. Within them, extensive storytelling and metaphoric
adventures sit perfectly-tight with the instrumentals they work from.

Over the course of the release, fans will recognise the joyous way the pair attack each track. While continually referencing the dingy traps which moulded their lives, the notion that their talent will lift them out of this lifestyle keeps them motivated.

Together, Doller and Y-Beezy are a force to be reckoned with and spell a potential threat to others in the industry. When they share verses out between themselves, the music is as hard-hitting and infringes on the same territory other Road Rap acts have been exploring as of late. Appearances from the likes of Fem Fel, DB1 and Mercston and affirm the pair’s credibility in the streets and the level of support they’re gaining from their work.

Amongst the singles taken from the mixtape are “Cab Back”, “No Stopping Us” and “Super Shotter”.
From the diversity of these three alone, the duo convey the various
angles which have to be addressed in their wondrous release. They
haven’t kept to the conventional few directions which most Trap Rap
acts focus on; they’ve got the aspirational, hustle-minded and
contemplative aspects included too, for the authentic “Trap Season” experience.

Bruts – Welcome To The Jungle [Official Video]

Bruts blesses the mic with bar after bar of fire over Jay Z and Kanye West’s ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ taken from their ‘Watch The Throne Album’ which was released earlier this year.
He begins by stating “this is where I was raised” and then proceeds throughout the rest of the track breaking down the details of the jungle in which he lives. A hard flow and potent delivery from Bruts makes it more than easy for us to understand exactly where he is coming from…
